The Van Buren Public Schools Young Fives Program is free for younger five-year-old children who live in the Van Buren Public Schools attendance area. It is a full-day program that includes age and ability-appropriate instruction in all common core subject areas. Students will participate in music, art, physical education and media specials. Transportation is provided.
WHAT IS THE YOUNG FIVES PROGRAM?
The goal of the program is to provide exceptional educational opportunities for younger five-year-old children who are not quite ready to attend a formal full-day Kindergarten, but have different interests and abilities than preschoolers. Many children may not have the social, emotional or developmental maturity to succeed in a formal full-day Kindergarten program.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE ?
Eligibility for Young Fives is determined by birthdate—child must turn five before September 1, 2016. Children who will turn five between September 2 and December 1, 2016, are eligible to attend, if a completed Kindergarten Waiver Form is submitted with your registration.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY CHILD COMPLETES THE YOUNG FIVES PROGRAM?
Students who participate in the Young Fives program in 2016-2017 will attend their home elementary school for Kindergarten the following year, 2017-2018.
HOW DO I ENROLL MY CHILD?
Young Fives and Kindergarten enrollment applications are currently being accepted in each elementary building until June 22, 2016. After June 22nd, please contact Debbie McWilliams at the VBPS Administration Building or call 734-697-9123.
