Edgemont Mission Statement

Edgemont Elementary believes the primary purpose of school is teaching and learning. We, in partnership with our parents and community, accept the responsibility of providing the best possible educational opportunities for all students to reach their highest academic achievement. We promote positive social and emotional student growth. We are committed to active teaching and learning. And we encourage and welcome parent and community involvement.

Edgemont Points of Pride:

  ●  Home of the Belleville Boys & Girls Club which offers a daily program as well as a summer program for
      over 250 students District-wide.

  ●  Highly qualified professional teachers that continue professional development and their education to stay
       abreast of current trends and successful strategical techniques to educate the diverse learner.

  ●  Over 210 parent volunteers who help at Edgemont on a daily/weekly basis.

  ●  Professional learning communities that meet at least once weekly in grade level meetings to discuss and
      implement strategies and techniques for a diversified learning program for all students.

  ●  Study Island Program for students Kindergarten through 5th Grade to enhance test taking skills aligned with
       the Michigan Grade Level Expectations.

  ●  Safe and supportive school plan of action utilizing the Bucket filler Philosophy for the entire school.

  ●  Life Skills Program for all 5th grade students.

  ●  Computer lab which is utilized by every classroom (K-5) and also with emphasis on keyboarding.

  ●  After-school and Saturday morning tutoring and detention program.

  ●  School District winner for the "most participation" for the H.U.G. Celebration.

  ●  Many field trips including Mackinaw Island, Toledo Zoo, History and Hands-On Museum, Greenfield
      Village, City of Belleville and Library Tours and picnics at local parks.

  ●  Learn to Swim classes during the school day for Grades K-5 during the 2008-2009 school year.

  ●  Open House for all parents.

  ●  Services learning projects including food drives, toy drives, and bottle drive for charitable organizations.

  ●  Reading Month Celebration which included assemblies, celebrity readers, and daily reading contest with
       prizes.

  ●  Birds of Prey assembly sponsored by the Huron Valley Conservation Club.

  ●  Over 28 Edgemont students honored and attended the Young Author's Conference.

  ●  School-wide participation in the Belleville Arts Council Art Show which features many of our students and
       their art work.

  ●  Family nights and activity nights sponsored by our PTO which include Pumpkin Fest, Spring Fling, and
      Winter Sports Ball.

  ●  Team teaching at the 5th grade level to prepare for middle school.

  ●  Support Our troops donation initiative which included collection of toiletries, socks, etc. and sent to our
       Troops in Iraq.

  ●  Tracks Magazine subscription for Grades 4th and 5th sponsored by the Washtenaw Sportsman's Club.

  ●  Celebrations during the school year: Detroit Tiger Day, Hat Day, Twin Day, Red Wings Day, and Pajama
       Day and various other themes.

P.A. 102, 1999 requires each building to report the number of incidents reported or called in to police. Edgemont had no reportable incidents.
