From the Superintendent's
Desk
July 11, 2008 Dear Kindergarten Parents, Even though we are just beginning our summer, our kindergarten teachers are already preparing for a great start to your child’s educational journey. The first few days of school are often confusing and somewhat scary for children and parents alike. In order to facilitate a smooth transition into kindergarten, we are making some adjustments to the way our school year will begin. The first day of school for students in grades 1-12 will be on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, however, our kindergarten students will not be starting on that day. The schedule for our incoming kindergartners will be: Tuesday, September 2 Round Up for kindergarten students and parents who enrolled after the March Round-Up Wednesday, September 3 Only children with last names that start with A – G will attend Thursday, September 4 Only children with last names that start with H - O will attend Friday, September 5 Only children with last names that start with P - Z will attend Monday, September 8 All kindergarten students will attend You will be receiving a letter from your child’s teacher in August confirming when your child’s first day of school will be. I know that this requires some flexibility from our families, but we believe that introducing children to school procedures in smaller groups affords us the opportunity to get to know our students better and increases the comfort level for our children and parents. If you have any questions about how this will work or concerns, please call (734) 697-9123 ext, 213. We are looking forward to seeing your child in September! Sincerely, Pete L. Lazaroff Superintendent Van Buren Public Schools
