NEW FOR THE 2010 SCHOOL YEAR
BHS Transportation Registration Form:
Register Your Child before June 10, 2010!

Bus Routes and Rules: Please Read

Each student registered with Van Buren Public Schools will receive a postcard with his/her bus route and arrival times. Please remember this time is approximate. Students should be at the stop location 10 minutes before the bus is to arrive. Parents/Guardians, you are responsible for your children until the bus arrives.

If you are new to the district, welcome to Van Buren. Please register your children with the school he/she will attend. If you are unsure which school your child will be attending, please call the Transportation Department at 734-699-5100. The school will be able to provide you with bus information when you register. If you moved over the summer and did not receive a postcard for transportation from your new location, please contact your school to change your address with them. Once you have notified the school, please contact our office at 734-699-5100.

If your child will be taking the bus from a childcare provider, please notify the Transportation Department immediately. Last year’s information is not retained by the computer system. It is necessary for you to notify our office every year if your student will be taking the bus from a location other than his or her home address. These changes can be made by contacting our office by phone at 734-699-5100 or in writing to: Transportation Department, 301 Davis St. Belleville, MI 48111 before school starts. Please remember: it is not possible to provide transportation to childcare facilities located outside the attendance boundaries of the school your child attends.

It is the mutual responsibility of the parent/guardian and school district personnel to make a responsible effort to understand and cooperate with each other regarding safe and orderly pupil transportation. School bus transportation is only provided for eligible students and shall be considered a PRIVILEGE to be enjoyed as long as students accept responsibility for their own personal conduct and carefully follow all rules and regulations.

Van Buren Public Schools has developed a policy to ensure that students are transported safely to and from school each day. The policy includes rules such as safe boarding, travel and arrival information. Also included are the steps in the disciplinary process for those students who fail to respect their own safely or the safety of others. In order to ascertain that parents and students are aware of the bus rules, the Transportation Department will send home a copy of the bus rules with each student.

Please discuss the bus rules with your child. Additionally, please sign the bus rules form and return it to your child’s bus driver. Failure to return the form could result in loss of bus riding privileges. If you do not receive the bus rules from your child, contact our office at 734-699-5100.
