McBride 3/18/2020 Update
John Leroy

Dear McBride Community,

First, I want to wish everyone wellness and safety during these unfortunate and uncertain times. Things are changing by the hour and are very fluid. It seems there are many more questions than answers at this time.  One thing we do know is the importance of social distancing.  Social distancing is critical and it is important to remember that what we do as a society or choose not to do over the next couple of weeks will have a massive impact on our communities’ trajectory on COVID-19 and the spread of the virus. The health and safety of our students, families, and our community is of the utmost importance!

I also wanted to keep you updated on what to expect from our staff in regard to education. Teachers are still working to help students engage intellectually during the school interruption. This includes some optional, enrichment activities that will be available in our Google Classroom. Please note that these materials are to be used at your discretion.   Teachers are available through email or Google Classroom for any and all questions, or you can email me directly at

Next, I would like to inform you of plans regarding our school's curricular progress. Please be aware that any and all class curriculum will be paused. Students are NOT expected to continue or complete any class assignments during this time. When school resumes, we will pick up right where we left off.

Some other questions we are still working through at this time:

Q. When are we coming back to school?

A.     Right now, the plan is to return April 13.  The Spring Break remains April 4 -12.

Q.  Report Cards / Grades?

A.    As of now, this is still being decided.  We want to make certain that grade reports are accurate first and foremost.  Depending on the length of the school closing, we will possibly make the 3rd and 4th quarters a combined grade.  We will get more information out as it becomes available.

Q.  State Testing

A.    We do not know at this point.  The local superintendents are working with the state and are meeting this week.  More info to follow that meeting.

Q.  What are we doing to clean the buildings?

A.    The district custodial and maintenance staff are working in teams to deep clean each building now and next week.

I know there are more questions than answers.  Please know that your McBride staff care deeply for our students and families and are working through this with all of you.  One way to do this is to share information frequently.  Please feel free to contact me or your teachers with comments or questions you may have and we will be sure to keep everyone updated as info becomes available.

Thank you and stay safe,

John Leroy
