Good Evening.
I am reaching out to talk to you about the large number of school cancellations. The State gives us six days of forgiven time automatically each year. Currently, we have had eleven days. Under law, we can apply to the State for an additional three days of forgiven time. We will be doing that and feel fairly confident that these days will be awarded.
We are still over by two days at this point. We will be required to make these days up, as well as, any more that we incur. I am telling you this to keep you informed and for your planning purposes.
We are looking at all available days in our current calendar, including April 19 (Good Friday) as well as extending the school year into the week of June 17, as options.
We will keep you updated as we get more information.
Thank you.
Peter Kudlak, Superintendent

Clarification on Shortage of Bus Drivers this morning. We have a shortage of bus driver subs in this district and surrounding districts. Typically when this happens, we double up routes to get everyone to school. However, this can cause a delay with the time students are picked up at their stop. Due to the still very cold temperatures this morning, we did not want students at their bus stops for any extended periods of time. We hope this clarifies our “shortage of bus drivers” statement. They do a wonderful job day in and day out in all sorts of driving conditions.

Good morning. Van Buren Public Schools will be closed today, February 1, 2019 due to a shortage of bus drivers. Thank you.

Good afternoon. Van Buren Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, January 31, 2019 due to the extreme cold temperatures. Thank you and stay warm.

Cold Weather Day - Van Buren Public Schools Staff and Parents - This is Pete Kudlak, Superintendent. As you know, we have some bitterly cold weather approaching. The sustained windchill will be below -25 degrees and therefore we will be closing school tomorrow, Wednesday, January 30, 2019. I understand that Thursday looks to also be below that threshold. However, I will be reassessing this during the day tomorrow to make sure nothing changes. If the current forecast holds, I will be reaching back out to you tomorrow evening. Thank you and stay warm out there.

Cold Weather Day

Good evening. Van Buren Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, January 28, 2019 due to the forecasted snowfall and bad weather conditions.
