Welcome new McBride ELA Teacher Alyssa Slayton! "My name is Alyssa Slayton and I'm the new 8th grade ELA teacher at McBride. I grew up in Holland, MI and graduated from the University of Michigan in 2014. After college, I moved around a bit and worked as a coffee barista, public library desk clerk, and substitute teacher. Somewhere during that time I settled in Ypsilanti and decided to pursue my dream of becoming a teacher through Eastern Michigan's Education program. I completed my student teaching this past fall at Belleville High School in the New Tech program. Since then, I've been working at BHS as a long-term sub. I'm thrilled to be staying in the district and hope to become a permanent part of this community!"
Hello McBride Community, Please remind all current 6th and 7th grade students to select their McBride electives for next school year by Friday, May 22nd. Courses can be selected through the MiStar student portal. Parent portal will not work for class registration. Instructions were emailed from Ms. Radtka last week to both parents and students. Please feel free to call McBride Middle School at 734-697-9171 with any questions. Thank you,
An email was just sent to current 7th graders and their parents with information about choosing next year's classes. 6th grade emails will go out next week.
It's teacher appreciation week this week! The work teachers do changes lives. This has never been more profound than in recent times. Please join us in reaching out to a teacher and thanking this week for the work they do each day. Each day this week, I will post a question to showcase all our teachers do for us. I look forward to seeing and hearing your thoughts! The question for today is from the National Association of Educators (NEA)
Good evening McBride Community We are excited to remind everyone that learning is continuing at McBride Middle School. If you cannot make it at that time, simply call our office and we will make other arrangements to get the material to you. Thank you for you continued support through these strange times. We are always here for our students and families, please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. Thank you and goodnight,

McBride Middle School Update 4/17/2020 Dear McBride Community, We wish everyone health and safety as we work through these complicated times. This week, teachers have been working tirelessly, training and planning for what school will look like for the remainder of the school year. Although many students have been participating already in enrichment and spirit activities, the official remote learning plan for all students begins on Monday, April 20th. This link will take you to the document for students (all grades and subjects on one document): McBride Learning Plan. All lessons will be posted in the student’s Google classroom for each course. Remote learning is quite different and challenging for most students and is not a substitution for the face-to-face, individualized connections our teachers have with students. Our teachers have been thoughtful about the curriculum and the present situation while putting together these resources. Teachers will also be providing office hours which are also linked on the document linked above. Letter grades will not be given during this time for a variety of reasons including, but not limited to, the ability of students to access materials, home-related engagement issues, and other equity concerns. Students who were failing classes at the time of the closure will be given the opportunity to show competence throughout the remainder of the closure so as to pass the class. Students will receive a grade of “pass” at the end of the school year for being in good standing and participating in the learning. Students who are not able to participate will receive a mark of “no-grade” and will not be penalized for not being able to participate during this crisis. We will do everything we can to remediate any affected students during the following school year. We continue to follow the governor's orders to stay home. Because of this, the McBride building will be closed until the order is lifted. Once the order changes, we will create a way for students and families to come in and collect all their belongings. However, we will be allowed to schedule times for families to retrieve chromebooks, instruments,or chromebook chargers by appointment. If your student needs to get their chromebook, instruments, or chargers please call the school office as soon as possible at (734) 697-9171. Please leave your name, your student’s name, and a number for you to be reached. McBride staff will retrieve the device and contact you to schedule a pickup time. In addition, each week on Tuesdays, paper packets will be available in the McBride Office for students without access to the internet. For those with internet access, please note this is the same as the information in Google Classroom and not mandatory for pickup. As always, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com or via phone at 810-373-5052 (Google Voice Number) and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Take care of yourselves and your families, John Leroy, McBride Principal

McBride Middle School Update 4/3/2020 Dear McBride Community, We hope everyone is staying home, staying safe and staying healthy. These last few days have seen some major changes in how we educate students for the remainder of this school year. These changes are making an impact on all of us educationally, but also mentally and emotionally. We are committed to continuing to go through this alongside our McBride families, and will continue to be here to support you throughout the remainder of this school year. As you probably already have heard, Governor Whitmer declared yesterday the school buildings have been closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 School Year (unless the restriction gets lifted). However, we are working as a building staff to create a virtual learning plan to keep educating students. We realize this is not the same as in person learning during normal school days, but we want to make certain our students are prepared for their next level of schooling. As soon as this virtual plan is in place we will communicate that with you. For students who are struggling with the stress, anxiety, depression, or other emotions that a pandemic can elicit, our counselors have set up their own Google Classroom. Students can join using code gi4p5sx. Information to help students with their coping skills is posted, as well as direct contact information for the counselors, so students can audio or video chat with the counselors. In closing, I would like to remind everyone that these incredibly challenging times are temporary and together, we will get through it. As always, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 810-373-5052 - (Google Voice Number) and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Take care of yourselves and your families, John Leroy McBride Middle School Principal

WDC Update: We have reached the threshold for the 3rd bus, and all waitlisted registrants have been released. We have 19 spots left on the 3rd bus, and then will begin a waitlist for a 4th bus (not assured). If you want to guarantee travel, get on now. Questions? Let us know!

Once that bus is above 50% registration, all registrants currently on the waitlist will become part of the trip until the 3rd bus is filled up. I am not confident we will have a 4th bus, so even though the deadline is November 26th to register, the earlier you join the trip, the more likely it is that you will have a spot. The deposit to get a spot is $99, and you can make payment arrangements with WorldStrides over the phone to ensure travel. Questions? Reach out to Mr. Mills or Mr. Strzalkowski ASAP!

Unfortunately, someone drove through our yard at McBride last night, and the result is some pretty nasty ruts for our school to fix. We are following up with VBPD as of this morning. The good news is, Mr. Rowell’s Crime Scene Investigation class took this as a real learning experience and is also conducting an investigation. They are measuring tire tracks, taking photos, making plaster impressions of the suspect vehicle and using other techniques for their investigation. The students will turn over all of their findings to the detectives at VBPD next week. Nice work young detectives!
MMS - Cheer Clinics and Try Outs are postponed for this week. More information will be available at a later date.
