Hello McBride 7th Graders and Families, What an exciting time for 7th Grade families and students! Beginning the school year is an exciting time for everyone, but especially new 7th Graders. Usually, by this time of year, you have had the opportunity to tour the building, try your locker, visit the lunchroom, meet teachers and other things. Although we did not get to have some of these experiences, it's ok! We realize that and have put some things together to make you feel comfortable and welcome the first day when you arrive at McBride - in person or online. For remote learning students, this is a totally different way to begin the year! Remote teachers will be sending emails to all students to explain how to login by Monday. The first day of school, teachers will spend time getting to know you and helping you navigate the online process. For in person students, McBride staff will be available to you everywhere when you arrive; At the buses, in the parent drop off points, in the breakfast line, in hallways - basically everywhere in our building. They will be there to help you find things and welcome you to our McBride Family. There will also be signs indicating where teacher’s rooms are and live people there to help you figure it all out. When you arrive at McBride, you may go to the cafeteria to get breakfast or go straight to your 1st hour class. No need to go to (or look for) your locker first, just go straight to 1st hour. During first hour, your teacher will show you exactly where your locker is and how to operate it. You will have time during class to put your things in your lockers. You will also tour the building by exploring the cafeteria, the gymnasium, and the Media Center. Your teacher will answer any questions along the way. Every new 7th grader (and teacher) are a little nervous about the first day of school - this is normal! Sometimes we feel like “we are the only one who feels this way”, or “everyone already knows everyone else and I don’t”. When we are exploring something new or unfamiliar - these are totally natural and common human feelings! You are not the only one! Please know, as soon as you become a McBride Tiger, you become part of a team of people that will be looking out for you everyday! Please ask questions, let us know your concerns and enjoy your experience. Although new sometimes feels uncomfortable - it is also exciting and fulfilling! We are here for you and will do everything we can to make your first day of Middle School a positive memory. I know you will be talking about the interesting things you did your first day when you get home Monday night! We are excited to see you (virtually and in person)!! GO TIGERS! John Leroy, Principal

McBride Middle School Update 4/3/2020 Dear McBride Community, We hope everyone is staying home, staying safe and staying healthy. These last few days have seen some major changes in how we educate students for the remainder of this school year. These changes are making an impact on all of us educationally, but also mentally and emotionally. We are committed to continuing to go through this alongside our McBride families, and will continue to be here to support you throughout the remainder of this school year. As you probably already have heard, Governor Whitmer declared yesterday the school buildings have been closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 School Year (unless the restriction gets lifted). However, we are working as a building staff to create a virtual learning plan to keep educating students. We realize this is not the same as in person learning during normal school days, but we want to make certain our students are prepared for their next level of schooling. As soon as this virtual plan is in place we will communicate that with you. For students who are struggling with the stress, anxiety, depression, or other emotions that a pandemic can elicit, our counselors have set up their own Google Classroom. Students can join using code gi4p5sx. Information to help students with their coping skills is posted, as well as direct contact information for the counselors, so students can audio or video chat with the counselors. In closing, I would like to remind everyone that these incredibly challenging times are temporary and together, we will get through it. As always, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org or via phone at 810-373-5052 - (Google Voice Number) and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Take care of yourselves and your families, John Leroy McBride Middle School Principal

WDC Update: We have reached the threshold for the 3rd bus, and all waitlisted registrants have been released. We have 19 spots left on the 3rd bus, and then will begin a waitlist for a 4th bus (not assured). If you want to guarantee travel, get on now. Questions? Let us know!
MMS-Tomorrow is school picture retake day. New students will also have their picture taken if they have not already. We start at 8 a.m. until done. Order form is under documents on MMS website.
Update on 2020 Washington DC trip registrations: We currently have a waitlist for the 3rd bus. Once that bus is above 50% registration, all registrants currently on the waitlist will become part of the trip until the 3rd bus is filled up. I am not confident we will have a 4th bus, so even though the deadline is November 26th to register, the earlier you join the trip, the more likely it is that you will have a spot. The deposit to get a spot is $99, and you can make payment arrangements with WorldStrides over the phone to ensure travel. Questions? Reach out to Mr. Mills or Mr. Strzalkowski ASAP!

Unfortunately, someone drove through our yard at McBride last night, and the result is some pretty nasty ruts for our school to fix. We are following up with VBPD as of this morning. The good news is, Mr. Rowell’s Crime Scene Investigation class took this as a real learning experience and is also conducting an investigation. They are measuring tire tracks, taking photos, making plaster impressions of the suspect vehicle and using other techniques for their investigation. The students will turn over all of their findings to the detectives at VBPD next week. Nice work young detectives!
MMS - Cheer Clinics and Try Outs are postponed for this week. More information will be available at a later date.
