Happy Friday Savage Families, Since I had several questions today about wearing a masks, I just wanted to clarify that we will continue to wear masks until the end of the school year that includes family members bringing students to and from school. We continue to have a state mandate about wearing masks and we want our students and staff to stay as healthy as possible. Everyone has done an amazing job we can make it to the end of the year. Also, we will be having a fun outdoor activity downtown Belleville on Monday, June 7th. We will have a mini art show with art from all grade levels and some of our students will be bucket drumming during the Bellevile Farmers market and Car Show beginning at 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. We will be sent home information this week and I hope you will be able to come down and see the kids work. Have a wonderful weekend!

The remote learning day will be the same for the remote students but our in person students will be learning remotely that day as well, similar to November. If your in person student requested a chromebook back in November, we will be sending that home with your child tomorrow, Wednesday, February 23, 2021 and they will keep it at home for the remainder of the school year and return it in June. If your technology needs have changed since the in person students were doing remote learning and you now need a chromebook, you will need to call Savage in order for us to get one to your child before Monday. Happy New Year Savage Families, I hope everyone is doing well. I want to give just a few reminders for everyone about the next week of school. On Monday, January 11, 2021 ONLY the in person students who were in attendance before Thanksgiving will be returning to in person learning. The Superintendent will be looking at the survey results and deciding how we will address those students who wish to return to to in person learning after the semester break on January 29th. For those students returning to in person learning on Monday, January 11, 2021, all families will need to remember to fill out the health screener BEFORE their child comes to school. All in person students who borrowed a Chromebook will be asked to return it on Monday, January 11, 2021 along with the charging cord. MASKS are still required and I would appreciate if you would speak to your child how important it is to wear their mask properly so we can remain at school. Free and reduced lunch will continue for all students until the end of the school year. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me via email or call Savage. I am wishing all of you well and hoping that I get to see everyone soon. Stay well.

Dear Savage Families, On behalf of myself and the staff I would like to thank all of you for helping to support us in this remote teaching/learning environment. It is so nice to see how the students have adapted to remote learning and to see the wonderful learning spaces that you have created for your children. It is so important to keep a routine for the kids and have that quiet learning space for them to work in. This is definetly not the ideal learning situation but together we will do the best that we can for the children. If at any time you need any support or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher or call Savage Elementary and we will do our best to support you. We truly appreciate all of you and please stay well.

Hi Savage Families, I just wanted to send a few reminders for the first day of school for everyone. For remote learners, if you have not heard from your teacher or have any questions, please call Savage and we will certainly help you. 734-699-5050. For in person learners just a reminder that our bell rings at 9 a.m. and all students are expected to have completed a health screener form before coming into school. You can find the form on the Savage homepage on the left hand side. This will need to be completed EVERYDAY. If this is not completed you will need to come up and complete the form. Unfortunately I cannot allow a student to remain in a class without one. Also, all students must wear a mask and I ask that you send more than one mask each day just in case. If they are eating breakfast, they will need to come in the front door and go to the cafeteria. The students will have multiple mask breaks throughout the day. For dismissal, the bell will ring at 3:59 p.m. We will have a staggered dismissal beginning with Kindergarten at 3:55 p.m. , 1st & 2nd at 3:57 p.m. and 3rd and 4th grade at 3:59 p.m. If you are picking up your child we ask that you go to the outside classroom door no earlier than 3:50 p.m. and please DO NOT knock on the classroom door. If you have more than one child, please go to the younger student first. If your child does need to leave early for an appointment, you will come to the front door and ring the bell. However, we will not release students from the office after 3:45 p.m., you will need to go to the outside classroom door. Thank you so much.

I just wanted to share this important information about hand washing provided by our District Resource Nurse. I strongly believe in the importance of teaching kids about germs because proper hand hygiene: Is the single most effective way to prevent the spread of infections Can prevent us from contracting serious (and sometimes life-threatening) illnesses like the flu, hepatitis A, meningitis, strep throat, bronchitis, and COVID-19 Helps ward off foodborne illness outbreaks Keeps us safe from contracting sickness-inducing germs from the saliva of household pets Is extremely important for those with impaired immune systems While you may not have a friend or family member with a weakened immune system, there may be someone at your child’s school, in your office, or at your local grocery store who does. When we work together to stop the spread of germs, we can help keep serious illnesses and infections to a minimum. It's important for kids to know that you should wash your hands not just after you use the bathroom but also before you eat, after you play outside, after you cough or sneeze, after you play with pets, and when you get home. germs.jpg -- Dionisia Munoz RN Van Buren Public Schools District Resource Nurse
