Dear Rawsonville Families,
Over the last two days we have begun to hear about a MOMO Challenge or just a character called MOMO. Students are afraid. MOMO is a scary character with large eyes and an exaggerated mouth that was originally a statue by a Japanese artist. Horrible people have created videos that they insert into normal YouTube videos, add to Facebook pages, use on What’s App in direct messages or insert them into Minecraft games. These dangerous video clips tell students to do things that will hurt themselves or siblings or could harm everyone in the home. They then threaten to harm the child or their loved ones if they tell adults about what they have seen. Please have a conversation with your children about this challenge and these kinds of videos. Make sure they understand that MOMO isn’t real and that they must communicate with their loved ones and adults anytime someone scares them or threatens to harm them.
Parents, I am attaching a link to an article from CBS News to help you understand this awful trend and a resource if anyone ever talks about or contemplates suicide.
