This past week, 3D printing facilitator, Mr. Watkins, was approached by the BHS custodial staff, Betty Deucreur, to 3D design and print a critical piece of equipment for the vacuums. Currently, there are six vacuums that are in need of maintenance due to this one piece. Mr. Watkins chose BNT senior, Joshua Richardson, to design the piece.
Within a week, Joshua tweaked and perfected the part and will print it for the custodial staff’s use. The reasoning behind all of this is to save money for VBPS, as these parts are extremely expensive. 3D printing solutions to these problems are the future of money-saving technology for the district.
Authentic learning experiences, like this one, allow students the opportunity to apply real-world experiences in their educational environment, and they look forward to working on more real-world projects like this in the future.
